We understand completely that failing the test can be frustrating. Bayside smog offers one free re-test should your vehicle fail inspection. Return in 2 weeks or less after repairs are complete with your original Bayside smog receipt and we will re-test for no additional charge,

Bayside smog has been in operation since 2005 serving the Concord community. We are a family owned shop dedicated to providing excellent customer service. We are a STAR certified test only station for the state of California that can provide you with everything the state requires to pass your smog check.

We are STAR certified to smog all vehicles including RVs, vans, and diesels.

What does STAR certified mean?

STAR certified means this station has met performance standards set by the California BAR to test and certify all vehicles with smog checks

What is a California smog test only station?

If the vehicles fails the smog check, a test only station is not allowed to perform repairs. Smog repairs are to be done by a state certified repair shop.

Why do I need a smog check?

The smog check program is part of the state of California’s ongoing effort to reduce emissions from cars and trucks. Registration renewal is dependent on the make, model and year of your vehicle. Call us anytime for a quote!

What is a smog check looking for?

The smog check is a visual inspection of all emissions components which uses emission analyzers and onboard diagnostic checks (OBDI and OBDII). A smog check also includes a California BAR state test to be performed to verify emissions systems are working properly.

Bayside Smog is located in Contra Costa County. Contra Costa county is an enhanced smog check area.

    • This means vehicles are subject to a BAR OBD (computer) inspection test or an acceleration simulation mode ASM test if the vehicle is compatible.
    • The DMV will require certain vehicles to go to STAR certified test stations by the DMV. Bayside smog can perform DMV directed vehicles.
    • Smog checks in enhanced areas must be checked biennially (every other year ) when registered and over 8 model-years old.
    • Change of ownership of vehicles must be done if they are four model-years old.
  • All vehicles even when new, purchased outside of California must be checked if registering it in California. New vehicles purchased in California typically do not require a smog check
